Supported by the Greggs Foundation, Sofa Surfers is a 8 week pilot project to assist Homeless young people aged 16-19 within the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham.
The sessions will be 2 hours per week, with an additional 2 hours spent on follow ups on behalf of the young people.
The mediation service FMC seek to provide will aim to prevent circumstances deteriorating; avert the breakdown of young persons’ relationships with their families to avoid homelessness.
FMC will incorporate employability skills and job searches into the project to ensure the young people can become economically more viable and sustain their new accommodation.
The project aims to provide young people with personal and social development, reduce their isolation, increase self esteem and self-worth, enable the young people to become economically more viable as well as contribute towards reducing the borough NEET statistics and alleviate homelessness and prevent social exclusion.
