This visualization illustrates the critical role of youth services in East London, a region where significant socioeconomic challenges, like high child poverty, create formidable barriers for young people.
The animated graph tells a story of two potential paths, contrasting the stark realities faced by unsupported youth with the positive, measurable outcomes achieved through local intervention programs.
The data demonstrates a clear divergence in life prospects.
In education, the graph contrasts the high risk of young people becoming disconnected from work and school (NEET) with the success of local mentoring programs, which help over 90% of their participants achieve vital qualifications. It then moves to safety and well-being, showing how intervention dramatically improves personal outlooks—with 78% of users at one Newham service reporting improved life satisfaction—while also contributing to safer communities by reducing reoffending rates.
Finally, the visualization tackles the hurdle of employment. It highlights London’s high youth unemployment rate but powerfully counters it with a tangible example of economic empowerment: a local East London service helping residents reclaim over £2.1 million in a single year.
This provides crucial financial stability and a foundation for a better future.
Overall, the graph makes a compelling, data-driven case that investing in East London’s youth services is not just a social imperative but a vital economic investment. It shows how targeted support directly addresses local challenges, fostering resilience, creating opportunity, and building a stronger, more prosperous community for all.
